What is IAQ?
IAQ stands for Indoor air quality. It is a term used to describe a person’s comfort, health and ability work due to the effects of the air quality indoors.
What causes poor Indoor air quality?
Indoor air quality is effected by the control of pollutants, such as chemicals, mold, poor ventilation, humidity or temperature. Some of the most common causes of IAQ problems include but are not limited to:
- Not enough ventilation, lack of fresh outdoor air or contaminated air being brought into the building
- Poor upkeep of ventilation, heating and air-conditioning systems, and
- Dampness and moisture damage due to leaks, flooding or high humidity
- Occupant activities, such as construction or remodeling
- Indoor and outdoor contaminated air
How do I get better Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?
There are several ways to increase your home or businesses indoor air quality we have outlined a few tips below:
- Reduce the use of harsh chemicals with high VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds).
- Limit smoking to outdoor areas away from windows and doors. Smoke contains very small particles in high concentration and is difficult to remove from the air.
- Keep your space clean:
- Wash bedding, pillows, and sheets regularly to reduce common household allergens, reduce exposure to dust mites
- Use high efficiency air and furnace filtration and vacuum products. Using HEPA and High MERV rated air filters will eliminate the micro-particles that cause allergies.
- Control moisture: Keeping your home or business dry and humidity free helps to prevent the growth of mold. Use of dehumidifiers in areas with high humidity and run exhaust fans when showering.
- Go Green: Adding a few common house plants will help to keep high carbon dioxide out of the air and will provide clear air.
- Proper Ventilation: Properly ventilating your home our business will also help reduce poor air quality keeping your space from feeling stale or stagnant or stuffy. Make sure your HVAC system is properly maintained with clean, mildew free coils. Don’t forget to change your air and furnace filters frequently to remove dust and allergens.
